At Highland Trail Motorhomes, we aim to supply anything you might want to make your trip special. What better way to get up close to the sights and embrace the Scottish climate than by bike. Cycling in the Highlands is like no where else in Britain, with dramatic scenery, wildlife and a huge variation of routes depending on how ‘athletic’ you feel. Park up somewhere beautiful and get the bike out with the family, enjoy a dram at the local distillery, cycle to a local cafe or just meander to some spectacular castles, lochs, woodlands and beaches.

For the sportier hirer, Scotland can boast some challenging cycle races. Hiring a motorhome is an ideal way to have comfort, a cup of tea and warmth on hand at the end of a grueling race. Check out the following for a full calendar of cycle events- http://scotlandwelcomesyou.com/scotland-cycling-events/.
The Highlands can provide some challenging hills to rival the Tour de France – try the Beallach na Ba road over near Applecross with an ascent over 1000 m and be rewarded with spectacular views and a well deserved rest at the Applecross Inn afterwards. It’s also the home of some amazing cycling challenges, the Bealach Beag and the Bealach Mor (http://www.handsonevents.co.uk).
If you fancy giving this a try on your holiday, specialized bikes can be provided by a fantastic local supplier, Sams Bike Shed (see Facebook for contact: Sam’s Bike Shed), located in our neighboring village. Bikes can be delivered for your motorhome handover day.
Many areas have well constructed cycle routes, allowing a safe ride for all ages. Aviemore and the Cairngorms are particularly well catered for in that respect. Check out Wildernessscotland.com for some great routes and advice.
All our motorhomes have bike racks fitted and standard bikes for men, women and can be hired for general cycling in the Highlands.
Be aware the Scottish climate can be changeable so come prepared if you think this is something you will do.
